Freelander & MG Rover key fob housing replacement.

You need to open your old key-fob housing/casing and transfer the electronic circuit board into the new housing/casing.

The housing/casing is a two part ‘click together’ unit. To open it you simply prise it apart. A small screwdriver or small knife is the best tool for this.

Once prised apart carefully move the electronic circuit board to your new housing, this is also the best time to replace the battery if you wish. You then simply click the front and back halves back together.

Note: The circuit board is only held onto the rear half of the key-fob by pressure wedged between two small pegs.

Resynchronization

Resynchronisation may be required if the old key-fob battery is removed for more than a short period of time.

Land Rover & Freelander

Insert the key into the ignition switch and turn the key to position II, Now press one of the key-fob buttons 5 times in quick succession. This should resynchronize the key-fob.

MG Rover

MG Rover vehicles do not require the key to be inserted into the ignition to resynchronize, they just need to be within range of the vehicles ECU. I would suggest you try this procedure while sat on the driver’s seat.

Press one of the key-fob buttons 4 times in quick succession. This should resynchronize the key-fob.

All Vehicles – Please note:

If you have a second key-fob please make sure it is not within range of the vehicle while you resynchronize the first key-fob or it will confuse the vehicles ECU.

If these procedures does not work first time, try again. Sometime you need to repeat this procedure two or three times before it works.

Battery replacement

Be careful when you handle the battery. If you get finger grease or sweat on the new battery it may not make contact and work. If in doubt, try rubbing the battery on a clean cloth or your on your jumper sleeve to remove any such marks.
